A 2022 Guide to Getting Verified on Instagram

Have you ever dreamed about getting that blue badge next to your Instagram handle to give you a sense of satisfaction or to separate yourself from impersonators?

Well, I’m going to dive a little bit more deeper compared to other guides on how verifications are handed out and what you can do to get approved for a blue badge.

How to Get Verified on Instagram

First off, let’s talk about what a verified Instagram account is.

A verified account is basically a blue checkmark next to your handle that is handed out by Instagram to those who have an “authentic presence of a notable public figure, celebrity, or global brand.”

Here is what determines eligibility for a badge:

  • Authenticity. You have to be who you say you are whether it is, a real person, registered business, or brand.
  • Unique. Only one account per person or business can get Instagram verified, with exceptions for language-specific accounts.
  • Public. While some brands have experimented with private Instagram accounts, these accounts do not qualify for verification.
  • Complete. You must have a complete bio, profile photo, and at least one post.
  • Notable. Instagram stresses that verified accounts must “represent a well-known, highly searched for person, brand, or entity.”

How to Apply for Instagram Verification

Do you believe you meet the qualifications listed above?

Well let’s find out.

You can try and apply for Instagram verification doing these simple steps:

Step 1: Request for Verification

  1. Click the menu icon on the top right corner on your profile page.
  2. Click the settings button
  3. Click on “Account”
  4. You will then see the option to request verification
  5. Fill out the required forms

Make sure you enter your information correctly as it will be used to verify your identity in order to badge your account.

That’s it, you’re done.. It typically takes around 24-48 hours to receive a response, Sometimes it can even take a few minutes.

Seems simple right?

Well, filling out the form is, but getting approved isn’t if you don’t meet the criteria’s so, I’ll tell you a few things you can do to get around.

Buy Verification Submissions

You’re probably asking “..what does he mean?”

This may or may not have happened to you before, but there are people who reach out to people via messages on Instagram asking if you’d like to get verified for a certain fee and they do this through verified hacked accounts so you fall for it.

These are the people you should be avoiding, they most likely bought the account on a social media forum or hacked the verified account so they can leverage it by looking more authentic when scamming.

There are legitimate people out there (mostly involved in the influencer/social community) that actually have the ability to badge your account and the reason why they’re capable of doing is because they have access to certain panels such as Facebook’s Media Panel.

Facebook’s media panel basically offers various solutions for media companies such as verification requests, username requests, and more..

The chances to get verified through this panel is still very slim. Instagram still vets applications, however it’s still worth a shot.

But, here’s the thing… Finding someone who has access to a media panel is tough and if you can even find someone, they will charge you thousands of dollars to submit a form through the panel for you with no guarantee on a successful request and when things go bad, they might end up running away with your money instead of refunding.

So, it’s your choice to figure out whether it is worth paying for and just be cautious when doing a deal. It’s difficult to find someone who truly has access to these types of panels and is willing to submit a verification request in exchange for cash.

Another reason how people are able to verify accounts without needing any ‘press’ or any other qualifications is because they have connections with Instagram employees who take a cut of the sale in order to badge someones account. This is rare to find and will also likely cost you a few thousand dollars to do as well.

Sometimes things can go bad when doing this too, accounts can end up getting banned within days or weeks. A buddy of mine had recently badged a meme account and within a few weeks, it was de-badged.

At the end of the day, the best thing to do is naturally acquire the badge.

Start by building your presence and do some outreach to get articles published about you. If you’re planning on going through someone to buy the badge through a panel or rep, just be aware of the risks that come along with it.

Well, you’ve came to the right place.

My name is Fabian Hernandez and if you must guess how many followers I have, I actually have a small amount. Even though I don’t use Instagram on my own name, I own a network of 5,000,000+ combined followers across 7 Instagram accounts and help people grow followers through performance-based influencer marketing and growth strategies.

What people told you in the past won’t work anymore but, I will tell you what I know with Instagram’s dying reach.

So, how do you get more followers on Instagram?

Well, back then it was very easy to get followers on Instagram due to how easy it was to get onto the explorer page through engagement/round groups along with automation to spread awareness insanely fast and easy.

Now, with the algorithms constantly changing, it makes it harder to grow followers on accounts.

So, rather than the basic guides you’ve probably read on how to get followers on your Instagram account, I’m going to break down every effective way you can grow your account whether it’s a meme/themed account or personal brand along with a few tips to help throughout your journey and combat Instagram’s algorithm.

Before we get into it, you may wonder what the difference between a personal and themed account is. Let’s use Garyvee as an example of what a personal account is.

It’s pretty clear, right? He has a personal picture, his real name, what company he runs, and his phone number on his bio, all his content has his face all over it.

Themed accounts are accounts that are either meme, relatable, sports, makeup, parody, quote pages, and more. They do not have a personal picture on their feeds or profile picture. Their bios usually tell you what they post or something catchy along with a business email for promotion inquires.

Pubity is one of the largest meme account on Instagram. He normally reposts tweets, memes, and occasionally mixes it up with ads that match his feed so they perform well.

Now that we have the differences covered, let’s get right into in growth tactics.

Step #1 Find a Niche:

First things first, before you do anything else you need to figure out what niche you want to put yourself in.

Finding a niche for a themed account is a little time consuming. This is generally because there are so many themed accounts out there that it makes it harder to be unique. So, take the time to figure out what type of account you want to create which can be meme, relatable, sports, make up, parodies – you get the idea.

Sometimes even the simplest accounts do very well and grow extremely fast.

Let’s look at this account my buddy owns, his account blew up and went viral very quick, it grew over 500k followers in 2 months…

Crazy, right?

Let’s look at one of the posts he had put up a weeks ago:

He finds a long relatable caption through search queries on Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest and he uses a picture that he finds pretty much anywhere and he’ll post it on his page.

What helps a lot is that tons of girls repost the post on their stories because it’s so relatable which helps with exposure tremendously causing it to go viral.

Do your research and see if you can post/create content that is unique if you’re going with a niche themed account, it will pay off in the long run.

Step #2 Figure Out the Content:

Now that you have a niche ready to go (hopefully), you need to figure out what content you will be posting.

Typically, personal brands/accounts post content that is either educational, motivational, lifestyle, fitness, or just anything in general.

Remember, unique consistent content is the most important key factor in growing an Instagram account.

Let’s use Garyvee’s content as an example of good content for a personal brand in the motivational/inspirational niche:

See how his team put an attractive header with relatable advice?

He also uses captions, headers, and graphics in his post which I’ll go over how this is crucial with video content later in this post.

Here is an example of content that shouldn’t be posted and won’t perform well:

He used a header which is great, but it should have been styled better and it’s messy and there are no captions in his video. His post description is ok but he also needed to use proper hashtags and encourage comments/engagement right as he posted the video to increase visibility on people’s feeds.

You can discover trends and recycle user generated content as a source for content.

One way to find out what’s trending is going on Twitter, lots of people do this.

This is an example of what’s trending today on Twitter.

You can turn this on into a funny/sad meme and post it on Instagram or, do a remake, or you can take a screenshot of a funny tweet about it and repost it on Instagram with credits to the original poster/source.

Finding content for a themed account is a little difficult unless you only post quotes or memes (not videos) because you can get DMCA’s by media companies that buy viral videos from the original content creator and seek accounts on the platform who are posting the content so they can file DMCA’s and get paid through retractions.

Always make sure to credit the owner of the content you’re posting and/or ask permission if possible.

Step #3 Leverage Shout Outs

Look, if you’re just starting out and have no followers you can leverage shout outs.

Shout outs are one of the most effective and best ways to grow an account and one of the fastest ways to start getting traction on your newly created account.

Here are a few ways to get started whether you do or don’t have money.

1. Use Influencers to Repost Your Content

If you have no money to spend on shout outs, you can use influencers to repost your content, they will tag you in the caption and image which can be pretty effective as well.

Find a page that normally reposts content and when you do, post something that relates to their feed and tag them. You have a decent chance of getting a repost from them if the content is relevant and good enough to post on their page:

Fashion Nova is a great example, if you post an outfit that they sell and use their hashtags you could get featured on their page.

2. Purchase Shoutouts

Now if you have money to spend, shout outs is one of the best things you can do to grow at a fast rate.

You can find relevant influencers to repost your content in exchange for money which is accepted through Paypal or Cashapp most of the time.

Be straight forward when reaching out because they might get loads of messages and most of the time, they just skim through their inbox to find any messages that say “inquire” or “promo” and paste their price.

Influencers just want your money not hear your story on how you found them and how much you “like” their content.

Sometimes influencers have their email or Telegram username on their bio and you may be able to reach them quicker if not, just message them through the app.

See how simple that was? Short and sweet.

3. Do Shoutout for Shoutouts (SFS) 

Now if you don’t have money to spend but you have a pretty decent sized account, you can find similar sized pages related to your account/content and simply message them asking if they would like to do a shout out for shout out.

Basically, how it works by posting something appealing on each other’s account and mentioning your account handle in the caption of the post.

Shout outs aren’t permanent posts unless you and the other page owner decide to do so but, people typically keep the post up for 12-24 hours on their feeds.

Before doing a shout out, make sure you create an appealing ad set to use that way you can have a great return also do feed shout outs, not story!

Here’s an example of a girl page using carousels to promote another page.

Carousels are a great way to get some great engagement on your posts. You can put your best posts as a carousel and use it as an adset.

4. Find Influencers to Run Ads

You can find personal influencers using a CRM like Grin and by searching for relevant hashtags through search queries on Instagram itself:

When using the search feature on Instagram, it will tell you how popular the tag is and it will display the top posts on that tag – this should help you find influencers pretty quickly to collaborate with or buy promo.

If you want to target a more general audience, you can utilize themed influencers.

Themed influencers are cost effective performance ads and most importantly, they can post the ad in less than a few minutes instead of waiting for days or potentially weeks to get a post live.

To find themed influencers, I’d recommend signing up for Flipmass as most of the community is on their platform.

Another thing you can do when doing shout out for shout outs is to have your profile on private, it makes people more intrigued to follow you and see your content after seeing your account promoted on someone else’s feed/story.

I’ve gained almost 14k in 10 days which is pretty good assuming 1.4k a day.

Step #4 Leverage Hashtags

Hashtags do not gain you a lot of followers compared to before, but they are still useful to use when posting content, it helps bring in more exposure to your content and maybe just a few followers.

You can do your own manual research for which hashtags to use by simply searching a hashtag/keyword and seeing how many posts there are under the tag, the more the better because it’s pretty much telling you how many people are interested in that hashtag.

The way it works to get to top posts is by how much engagement your posts receive off the, you can leverage some of the tips to increase engagement below to help you get some exposure through hashtags.

For me, I keep it fast and simple by using an hashtag generator instead of taking time and manually researching.

Just enter a keyword and it will display the best hashtags to use for your post.

You can simply choose which hashtags to use that are popular, the number on the right side of the tag represents how many posts are within the hashtags, the higher the number the more popular it is.

Here is an example of a post that did well using Hashtags on one of my puppy niche accounts.

That’s almost 23,000 extra impressions that I received by using 30 hashtags which made the post visible to 72% more people that do not follow me.

Like I said before, the follower gains aren’t as great anymore.. this post gained me 5 followers but, it helped with my post engagement and making your account look active.

People tend to ask me if it’s better to place your hashtags on the caption of your post or as a comment..

Honestly, it’s up to you.

I do it as a comment just so the original caption can look clean and less spammy, it’s all preference and there’s no increased performance by doing either or.

Step #5 Join Megas:

What’s a mega?

This is one of the most popular tactics that social media kingpins use to actively grow accounts for free. If you have a at least 50k followers, you can use this method to skyrocket your daily gains.

There are 2 different types of megas that groups hosts and you might hear about them often; day and OVN.

  1. Day megas are self-explanatory in the sense that they are megas during the day.
  2. Overnight megas are also self-explanatory in the sense that they are megas during overnight.

Now, how it works is simple, if you are entered in the mega, the person who is hosting the mega will only follow you and the others who entered as well.

They encourage people to follow the people they are following in order to redeem what they’re being offered such as: finding out your crush, a “free” iPhone/Airpods, or any other sort of incentive.

If you do not have at least the minimum requirement of followers which is typically 50k, you can buy-in for about $30-70 spot (day) that are hosted by pages that are typically theme and meme accounts and once you’ve reached the minimum follower requirement, you can participate for free.

The question that remains.. will the followers engage?

It depends on your niche and content.

Remember, content is crucial on Instagram and if you do not have good content you cannot expect your followers to engage with your page/posts.

If you have a 30-50k+ account with a least 2%+ engagement, simply reply to this post with your telegram username and I will add you to a free mega.

Step #6 Buy Into a Celebrity Giveaway:

Ever scrolled through your timeline and notice a celebrity doing a giveaway?

Well, it’s most likely something that they are getting paid to do and if money is not a big deal for you, you can use this method if you have an account you’re starting off or heck, even an account that’s already established.

Celebrity giveaways are being hosted more and more frequently and the price to enter them depending on who the celebrity is can be anywhere between $3,000-50,000.

To find them might be a little challenging, sometimes they reach out to you or you might just stumble across one.

Another option is reaching out to Curated Businesses, they specialize in celebrity giveaways.

So is it worth it?

While you might get an increase in profile visits, website clicks, potential sales, and thousands of followers in a very short amount of time, you might lose about 50-70% of the gains (or less if you’re lucky) if your content and niche isn’t appealing.

Remember, people are following you to win a prize, not because they value your page and content.

Let me give you a quick money making tip: If you find someone legit selling spots to a giveaway, you can resell spots and make a couple hundred or maybe thousands if you’re lucky, sometimes you’ll also get a free spot if you find a buyer 😉

Step #7 Boost Posts:

Instagram really wants you to spend money on their platform.

To get some paid traction rolling in, you can boost your best posts with a strong caption and call to action.

This is what I mean by strong CTA – give your audience a reason to follow you and put your username all over the post with some emoji’s so you can increase your CTR.

This will be an expensive method, but with the right post you could see great results with a low CPF when using the right ad.

Step #8 Leverage Automated Power Engagement:

To start off an account you can leverage power engagements to help get you some traction and organic growth.

Power engagements are automated engagements that are from real and engaging accounts.

There are lots of platforms out there that sell this service.

Some of your posts will have the potential of going viral if you find the right network of accounts, hashtags, and by using engaging content that we will go over later in this post.

You could buy up to several thousand likes per post and they will like the post slowly organically..

I’d recommend using Goso however, there are thousands of providers out there that you can choose from.

Step #9 Try a Mass Story Viewer:

This is a sort of newish popular tactic that brands have been leveraging for targeted growth and you can also use it when starting a new account.

This can put your account at risk of suspension so use it safely, some bots have recommended settings you should follow.

It is pretty much a bot where you can target specific users and view millions of stories resulting in an increase of profile visits, follows, and potential sales.

Not too bad?

You can leverage this method if you’re starting a new account or want to increase your profile visits and targeted followers for your brand.

Step #10 Automated Comments:

You’ve probably scrolled through a celebrity post or famous Instagram page’s comments and seen weird/spammy comments right when a new post goes live.

So what’s the reasoning behind it?

Well, this has been a very popular method for a very long time, it helps drive you followers

It’s basically a bot where people can setup a “burner” account and follow influencers and other big pages so that when a post goes live, the bot will fetch new posts on it’s feed and will instantly comment so people can see it when scrolling through comments.

This method can be effective as long as your automated comments have a strong CTA and the bot accounts bio is click worthy that way you can drive followers to your main.

If you want to try out a comment bot use a new fresh account and place your actual handle you want to drive users to in the bio of the account. Don’t use the bot on your main account and risk getting it suspended.

Though there may be loads of comment bots available, I do not have any that I can recommend as I have my own custom one.

Now that we have covered the basics on starting an account and growing followers, let’s get into some tricks/hacks to organically increase your engagement.

How to organically increase Instagram engagement:

Tip #1: Increase Your Story Views and Profile Clicks

I have a little small hack you can do to increase profile clicks on your account when you have a decent sized audience that not many people are using and that’s putting a simple ring border around your profile picture.

This helps attracts attention and highlights you among others when people scroll through their feeds and see your post. People will think that you have something else going on your account rather than a story which makes them click on it which leads them to your profile or story.

Tip #2 Increase Post Engagement

When you’re posting a video or picture make sure to include a header on it so it attracts attention when people scroll through their feeds.

For the header you can use an app such as inshot to edit the content and place a background/header. Make sure you use an attractive header text to reel your audience into your post and engage with your post.

Tip #3 Increase Video Views

Let’s face it, sometimes people are either in a public place, in class, or somewhere quiet and where they can’t or don’t want to turn the audio on to watch a video.

You can combat this by placing subtitles in your videos.

You can use a service such as Rev, they have an option to have real humans create the captions or their automated machine (sometimes you’ll have to edit it afterwards.)

Tip #4 Increase Video View Time.

A progress bar on your video helps keep your audience engaged and increases the view time of your video. People like to know when a video is going to end or how much they’ve watched so it’s great to place one on your video.

You can use Adobe Premiere Pro to add this, it requires basic editing and you can learn by watching this video.

Tip #5 Increase Comments

Responding to to comments while they are fresh helps create social proof for your content.- this also boosts your chances of receiving more engagement while your post’s potential reach is at its peak.

Now there a few tricks that you can do to increase comments.. this one is totally up to you and it works wonders if you have a decent sized audience, you can increase your comments on a new post by going live on IG.

The trick here is to increase comments/engagement on your new post so that your post gets prioritized on your follower’s feeds and also increasing the chances of hitting the explorer page.

A lot of people use this tactic and it works wonders, simply type a message and pin it with something like “Comment on my new post for a follow back, comment “relate” letter by letter for a follow back,” and record yourself following people that follow what you said for a few minutes.

The question is, does it work? It does. Check out the metrics from one of my accounts that used this method here:

The “other” label it a little odd, it’s a combination of all ways people can see your post other than scrolling through their timeline/home.

Another thing you can do is caption baiting your posts, this can increase comments by up to 80% if you have an active audience. Tai Lopez does this on nearly every single post he does – as an example:

He doesn’t really give $100 to the person with the best comment or he’d be spending a lot of money each month but, look at the amount of comments he gets… Not bad at all, right?

If you do not want to do the 2 tactics above, you can also reply to people who reply to your post. If people have questions, reply to them and ask them a question so you can get another reply, if someone replies with an emoji, reply with one back.

Doing this not only helps with getting more comments, it also helps build a more loyal and engaging audience as well.

Tip #6 Setup Highlights

When new people visit on your Instagram profile for the first time, they probably don’t know who you are (yet).

Most people usually use their bios to make that first impression and convince users to hit that follow button. With the highlight feature, the bio section is not the only place where you can tell your brands story.

Here is an example of one of my friends, Dhaval, who has highlights on his profile. It makes the profile not only more aesthetic, it also gives more people insight on who you are and what you do.

Some people may use this differently though, some may use it to promote brands, tell their own story, or just for looks.

Attractive highlight covers are a must that way you can get users to click on them, here is a good app you can use on IOS to create appealing highlight covers.


As the Instagram algorithm constantly changes, it makes it harder to grow an  Instagram account. The methods I have provided you should be able to help you skyrocket your gains in 2020.
